Therapy

Virtually in New York, DC, and Maryland / In-person in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Is therapy right for you? People seek therapy for a host of reasons, but at the root, we are often looking to live more fully, freely, and joyfully in a world that doesn’t always make space for us. I provide an affirming, anti-oppressive space where you can be heard, gain insight, and work toward meaningful, lasting change on your own terms. As a queer woman committed to liberatory healing, my work is informed by over two decades of experience in community-based mental health, harm reduction, and LGBTQ+ advocacy.

I believe you are the expert in your own life; our collaboration will center your agency, wisdom, and resilience. Together, we’ll honor your lived experience, challenge the systems that have shaped your struggles, and cultivate the skills to navigate life with greater ease and enjoyment.

My areas of specialty include:

  • Sexuality, including exploration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, queer and other identities, non-monogamy, and polyamory. I am a kink and sex-worker affirming.
  • Gender identity, expression, and transition, including work with partners and family members of trans and gender expansive individuals and youth
  • Genuine healing from acute, chronic, or complex trauma
  • Thinking through a problem or making a difficult life decision
  • Dealing with feelings of anxiety or depression
  • Working through feelings of loss or grief
  • Relationship and interpersonal challenges
  • Substance use concerns, offering harm reduction, moderation management, and abstinence-based approaches

Fees and Insurance: My standard fee for individual therapy is $225 per session. If my standard fee remains out of reach we can discuss the option of reduced fee services on an individual and as needed basis. Refer to Alexis J. Cunningfolk’s Green Bottle Method as a general reference to determine if it may be appropriate to access my sliding scale rate. NOTE: I currently have a wait list for individuals seeking to access my sliding scale.

I am an out-of-network provider under most insurance plans. This means you have the option of being reimbursed by your insurance provider if you have out-of-network coverage. Out-of-network coverage typically reimburses anywhere from 40 to 100% of expenses.  Prior to reaching out, I encourage you to explore your coverage. Here are some questions you’ll want to ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
  • Is there a deductible, and if so, how much has already been met for the year?
  • What percentage of the therapy fee is covered?
  • Is there a limit to the number of sessions covered per year?

Still not sure if you have out-of-network coverage, or just confused about what that entails? Feel free to give me a call and I can walk you through the process.

Good Faith Estimate: Under the “No Surprises Act” effective January 1,2022, you are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate (GFE), which aims to provide you with accurate information regarding the expected cost of out of network healthcare services. Healthcare providers are required to provide a GFE of expected charges for scheduled or requested services at least three business days before the appointment if the service is scheduled or no later than three business days after the date of request if the patient requests a GFE without scheduling the services. The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs of treatment. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate or the dispute process, visit http://www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
